We are excited to announce the publication of our book edition “Fighting Hunger, Dealing with Shortage”. This collaborative project, released in two volumes, is an edited collection of primary sources. For the first time an insight is given into the experiences of ordinary people under German occupation, their everyday life and how it quickly became dominated by shortages, the search for supplies and different strategies to fight scarcity.
The edition is the result of the fruitful cooperation of the international research network “Societies under German Occupation – Experiences and Everyday Life in World War II” with scholars from 15 European countries. In presenting examples from all European countries under German occupation, the collected sources give the first pan-European perspective on the history of shortage, malnutrition and hunger resulting from German occupation and exploitation policies.
